Important Information
Prior to the December 2011 edition of the Monthly Economic
Summary (published 18th January 2012), the Office for
National Statistics (ONS) used 1991 census wards as the building
blocks to calculate figures for higher geographies. As these
were slightly different to current boundaries, the official ONS
claimant count figures included in Tables 5 and 6 up until November
2011 were higher than the corresponding figures built up from the
2001 census wards and presented in Tables 1 and 2.
On 18th January 2012, the way that
local authority and county figures are calculated changed to use
Lower Super Output Areas as the building blocks; these align
with the current county and district boundaries. From the
December 2011 edition onwards, the claimant count figures for all
districts, and the county total, reflect current
boundaries.
