Online Indexes
Many documents in the archive collections in Worcestershire
Record Office contain valuable information about the people and
places of Worcestershire. For many years, staff and volunteers have
been indexing the details from some of these sources into
searchable databases. More will be added as time permits.
Although the indexes do not contain images of the records, the
originals are in most cases available to view at
Worcestershire Record Office. Not all documents are suitable for
photocopying, but you are welcome to visit the Record Office
to photograph entries with a digital camera, subject to copyright
restrictions.
We now have indexes available for the
following collections of records, please click on the title to
download the information.
The utmost care is taken in the
preparation of our electronic indexes. However, if you find any
errors in any of these indexes please let us know.

Calendar of Prisoners 1850-1858
A Calendar of Prisoners was a list of of prisoners which was
published following each Quarter Session hearing. A typical
Calendar of Prisoners would record the personal details of people
tried at the session together with their offences. Information was
recorded by case, so partners in crime are listed together.
The kind of information you could expect to find in a Calendar
of Prisoners includes:
- Case number
- Surname and forenames
- Age
- Level of literacy
- Name and residence of referring magistrate
- Details of crime, including place
- Verdict and sentence
All efforts have been made to ensure that the information
contained within these indexes is accurate. However given the size
of some indexes, in some cases it has only been possible to check a
sample of them. If you spot any mistakes, then please do let us
know!
