Interactive Map of Worcester
This is an interactive map
displaying relevant records held at the Record Office relating
to particular locations of historic interest.
A broadband connection is recommended, otherwise it may take
some time for the maps to load. To use the map, ensure the
'Worcester Archives' box is ticked. Each coloured shape on the map
represents a different geographical place or feature. The Record
Office's holdings go back several centuries, and some of the shapes
relate to places that no longer exist or have changed use. To help
locate historic features, there is an option to view 'Historical'
OS maps from the 1880s. However, these do not cover much beyond the
City of Worcester, due to licensing issues. The other types of map
and aerial photos do cover the entire county.
Clicking on a shape opens a box containing place name
information and a link to the relevant entry in the online
catalogue. This will provide information about the type, extent and
dates of documents the Record Office holds relating to that place.
The original documents can be viewed at the Record Office. There
are currently over 200 features that are linked to the online
catalogue. The majority are within Worcester City but it is being
expanded to cover the rest of the county. This is an ongoing
project and not all the Record Office's collections are in either
the GIS map or the online catalogue.
