Volunteering at Worcestershire Record Office
A note on current volunteering opportunities
Thank you very much for your interest
in offering your services as a volunteer at Worcestershire
Record Office. The contribution of volunteers to our work is very
much valued.
However, at present we have a full complement
of volunteers involved with our current range of projects and
activities and so are not taking on any further volunteers in the
immediate future. We know this will be a disappointment to you and
we would like to repeat how much we value the contribution
volunteers have made over the years.
If you want to fill in a volunteer
registration form we would be very happy to keep your name on a
waiting list if that would interest you. There is a natural turn
over in the volunteers we have working for us , but unfortunately
we cannot say how soon we might be able to offer a place on a
project if you do wish to have your name added.
As we develop more integrated services with
other partners such as the Museum, the Archaeology service and Arts
and Libraries in the future there may be further opportunities also
in those sectors. If you are happy for us to share your details
with them as a potential volunteer please let us know.
Once again, thank you for your interest.
- Do you want to develop new skills or further your
interest in archives?
- Have you thought about volunteering with Worcestershire
Record Office?
Who can volunteer?
Anyone can volunteer and no previous experience is required as
we will provide full training for the task that we want you to do.
A team of young people aged 14-18 volunteered for us last summer at
the Croome Summer School yet our oldest volunteer is well into
retirement.
Oral History Transcribing
What would I be doing?
You could be
indexing, transcribing, flattening documents or interviewing a
variety of people for our Oral History projects. There are also
voluntary opportunities within the WASP and Film Projects.
Where can I work?
Depending on the project
you could be at the History Centre in the city centre or at the
County Hall Branch of the Record Office. You could also work at
home if it is suitable.
Indexing from Electoral Register
Microfilms
When would you need me?
Times are arranged
to suit you and us. Even if you are working, we can
accommodate.
How long would I be expected to volunteer
for?
This depends on the project and how much time
you can commit to us. We have some volunteers who have been with us
for years.
If you are interested and want more information about what to do
next please contact Dr Lisa Snook on LSnook@worcestershire.gov.uk
or 01905 766353.

meeting are available here:
