Benefits of participating in the award

  • Logo of bird for WTBAOne school developed a reading culture that was not present previously.
  • Another converted a group of girls to a traditional 'boys' writer.
  • All schools have said that pupils (and some teachers and librarians) have read books they otherwise would not have read.
  • The intention was to stretch our boundaries and the WTBA has done just that.

Criteria

  • Titles published from November one year through to the following October
  • Aimed at readers aged 11 to 14
  • Cannot be a sequel.

Pupils vote in school to whittle down to a shortlist of six.

Books are read over Spring term and votes collated for the final announcement

Although we encourage pupils to read as many of the titles as possible, we will accept votes if pupils have not read the lot, but still get excited by what they have read.
