Improving and protecting health by promoting a culture,
environment and behaviour that contributes to better health and by
arranging local health services in the most effective way;
promoting healthier lifestyles through local leadership, discreet
projects and services, and information for the public; protecting
health by planning for and responding to major health threats;
supporting commissioning by providing the intelligence and evidence
base to underpin excellence in health and social care services;
helping the County Council, NHS Worcestershire and Worcestershire
Partnership work together to meet key public health targets.

Career Information:
Richard qualified as a medical doctor in
1994 and worked in acute hospital medicine and A&E until
specialising in Public Health Medicine in 1998. Richard entered the
Public Health Consultant training programme in 1999 and spent five
years in national and international posts including work for the
Department of Health, Home Office and European Commission. Richard
qualified as a Consultant in 2004 and took a Consultant post with
the Health Protection Agency in London. He moved to Worcestershire
in 2005 to take up the post of Acting Director of Public Health for
the former Wyre Forest Primary Care Trust.
Richard was appointed to the new post of
Joint Director of Public Health for Worcestershire County Council
and NHS Worcestershire in 2007.

Basic pay scale £74,504 - £100,446
Plus 5% supplement for on call
Plus £10,474 Director of Public Health supplement
Plus £11,828 Clinical Excellence Award
