Each hazard is risk assessed to:
- Determine the likelihood of it occurring.
- The impact on our society if it did occur.
Each is given a priority rating and emergency responders
consider if they have adequate controls in place to deal with the
emergency event or whether additional controls are needed.
This helps us to consider prevention strategies and begin to
prepare emergency response plans.
The National Risk Register
The risks that the UK faces are continually changing: risks
emerge, threats evolve and our ability to respond to the disruptive
challenges we face improves.
The Government monitors the most significant emergencies that
the United Kingdom and its citizens could face over the next five
years through the National Risk Assessment (NRA).
The National Risk Register is designed to increase awareness of
the kinds of risks the UK faces, and encourage individuals and
organisations to think about their own preparedness.
The register also includes details of what the Government and
emergency services are doing to prepare for emergencies.

National Risk Register 2010
The
National Risk Register provides details of the risk
displayed in the Risk Matrix and how we are meant to deal with them
if the risk happened.
Community Risk Register
The West Mercia Community Risk Register has been created to
provide public information about hazards identified which could
potentially have an impact upon the West Mercia Police Force
Area.
The difference between the national and the Community Risk
Register is that the community is focused on the local issues in
detail and the national looks at the generic risk that affect the
whole of the UK.
The register has been published in response to
the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 on the West Mercia
LRF Website.
