Embedding the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) 5: 'Over the Rainbow'

6th - 11th June 2011

We are all individuals, each of us with a unique view of the world. Creativity is about communicating those views and sharing, and representing, our ideas. Through creativity children begin to make sense of their world, to connect with others and to develop an inner strength that will help them to deal with life's many challenges.

At the conference we shared lots of ideas to develop creativity in your setting and we hope that they will inspire you to be creative with your children, staff and families. Our workshop leaders were Vamos Theatre Company and Mark Riley. We also had a workshop that looked at creative environments.

The documents and photos on the right hand side of this page are meant as a starting point to support your own creative thinking.

Mark Riley: Creative~States provides opportunities for people to explore their world through arts and creativity ~ getting the most out of the process as well as the product, the focus is on the people and their communities...he is currently working in an early years setting in Kidderminster, with Bishops wood and play train in Birmingham.

Vamos Theatre Company: Vamos is passionate about theatre and its role in people’s lives, in performance and participation: theatre which allows the imagination to run wild is full of visual inventiveness, live music and song, incorporating physical theatre, mask and puppetry. They provide practical workshops to inspire the use of drama and storytelling.

Creative environments: 'The Yellow Brick Road' To enable children to develop their creativity we must allow them to explore and to play without imposing on them our own ideas and anticipated outcomes. We must foster in them a creative approach to learning across the all areas of learning. Creativity is not just about painting and music, it is about thinking imaginatively, being resourceful and seeing potential for imaginative play in everyday objects.
