The Visual Impairment Team

Pencil Icon

BlindThe Visual Impairment Team supports babies, pupils and students, from birth to 19 years old, who have a visual impairment which cannot be corrected by glasses and which may have an impact on the child's development and/or learning.

Our friendly team consists of specialist teachers with additional qualifications in visual impairment, a qualified mobility officer with specialist training for working with children and young people, experienced teaching assistants and a technical support worker.

If your child has a suspected or diagnosed visual impairment or you have concerns regarding your child's visual functioning, please read the criteria for involvement document at the top of the right-hand column to see if we can help.  We have an open referral policy and will accept requests for involvement from parents/carers, medical professionals, professionals within Children's Services, nurseries and schools.  A Request for Involvement form and accompanying guidance notes can be downloaded at the top of the right hand column.

On receipt of a request for involvement, a qualified teacher of the visually impaired will respond within 15 working days.  A period of assessment will follow culminating in a written report giving recommendations and a proposed level of involvement from the Team.
