The Further and Higher Education Team

Introduction
The F/He Team works with post-16 learners in colleges across
Worcestershire and some neighbouring authorities. It supports those
learners who have sensory impairments and/or complex communication
difficulties or an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The team is made up of qualified specialists, including Teachers
of the Deaf, Teachers of the Visually Impaired, qualified
Communication Support Workers and Teachers and Support staff with
ASD Qualifications and expertise.

We can provide the following:
Support for Learners:
- Assessments with recommendations for individual programmes
- Signers, Notetakers, Lipspeakers
- Tutorial / study support
- Training in use of Braille, Moon
- Modification of teaching materials
- Advice and support from Deaf Role Model Field Worker, and
specialist mentors
- Support for parents and student advocates
Support for College staff:
- Staff training and development
- Advice and guidance for lecturers and tutors re HI, VI,
ASD
- Provision or loan of specialist equipment
- Co-ordination and deployment of support staff
- Peer awareness training
- Mobility Training
- Transition guidance and support Transcription services,
Braillist
Outcomes of Support:
- Well informed staff enabling college to provide better access
to learning for its students with sensory impairments or ASD
- Higher retention and improved achievements
- Students empowered to realise their potential
- College empowered to meet their responsibilities under the
DDA
