Gritting Scrutiny Review
The Environment and Economy Overview and
Scrutiny Panel carried out a review of the Council's Winter Service
Policy.
The scrutiny examined:
- the current gritting policy, including the
criteria for which routes are gritted and the location and
arrangements for filling grit bins
- the views and experiences of the public,
schools, parishes, businesses and bus companies
- the effectiveness of communication on road,
school and any other closures or reduced service - is it clear
which routes will be gritted and whether there is any flexibility
for individual requests
- best practice in other top performing
authorities.

The Panel considered gritting and the Winter Service on 4 March
and 11 May 2010, the agendas and minutes for which can also
be downloaded from the documents section on the right.
In September 2011, the Panel reviewed the work that had taken place
since the scrutiny review and how the recommendations accepted by
the Cabinet had been taken forward. Members were pleased with
the improvements and progress made and wished to place on record
their appreciation of the hard work by all staff involved in
delivering the winter service in Worcestershire. See the Panel's
Agenda and
Minutes of 22 September 2011 for more details.
