Worcester Library and History
Centre
Project Vision

In 2004, Worcestershire County Council and the University of
Worcester formed a new partnership with a view to deliver a joint
Library and History Centre. Since then, joint working has continued
and a bid for provisional PFI credits was submitted in March
2005.
The project proposed is a
groundbreaking partnership development to create a fully integrated
public and university library, which will be completely new to the
UK and highly innovative internationally. The library will also
include the county archives and record office history centre, the
county’s archaeology service and a multi-agency customer service
centre. The concept has been developed jointly, by Worcestershire
County Council (the County Council/WCC) and the University of
Worcester (UW). It will create a cultural, learning and information
centre of excellence promoting lifelong learning, engendering
social inclusion and raising aspirations in the broadest sense for
the whole community, regardless of age, background, or ability.
So what will be in the library?
All these services will be in one building, working together in
innovative ways to ensure that existing, high quality, services are
maintained while taking advantage of the exciting opportunities for
new developments.
