About Warmer Worcestershire
The Warmer Worcestershire project is aimed at reducing carbon
emissions in the county by increasing energy efficiency in homes
and businesses, particularly where high levels of heat loss are
identified. The project aims to encourage residents to
insulate their homes in order to save money, reduce carbon
emissions and ensure good health.
During cold, clear winter nights from November 2008 to March
2009, a company called Blue Sky carried out
an aerial thermal imaging survey of Worcestershire. The data
captured by the survey has been used to produce a thermal
map of the entire county, enabling residents and businesses to
see the amount of heat lost through the roofs of their properties.
We're promoting the map to residents across Worcestershire
through the local media and events. Please note that some of the
flying was done at weekends, so buildings that weren't occupied and
had the heating turned off could show up as green.
In the second phase of the project, vulnerable residents, like
the elderly and low income households, will be assisted with advice
on grants to insulate their homes and other schemes to assist in
paying their heating bills.
The project is being coordinated through the Worcestershire
Partnership and brings together organisations responsible for
local services, housing, energy advice and the environment.
The project is funded with an grant from Improvement and Efficiency
West Midlands aimed at helping the Worcestershire Partnership
tackle the really big issues in the county, like the reduction of
carbon emissions and fuel poverty. Warmer Worcestershire is
helping deliver fuel poverty and climate change targets in
Worcestershire's Local Area Agreement.
