What is the Switch It Off Campaign?
Switch It Off is an energy saving campaign run
across Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Coventry that aims to
encourage people to reduce the amount of electricity they waste
leaving lights and appliances on unnecessarily.
The campaign runs for one week every year and
culminates in the 'Big Switch Off' on the Friday between 4.30pm and
6.30pm.
Last year the amount of energy saved during
this period was the same as 1500 typical three-bed detached
houses turning off all their power for one year.
Switch It Off 2009 Results
9th-13th November
The 2009 Big Switch Off for Worcestershire
made a saving of 10.6MWh. That's the equivalent
of
176, 667 60W light bulbs being switched off for one hour.
In CO2 this is a saving of 5692.2Kg CO2.
If we saved this much of energy everyday for a year this would
equate to 2,071,961Kg CO2, which would fill over 2000 hot air
balloons!
Across Worcestershire Warwickshire and
Coventry there was a 1.7% reduction in electricity usage during the
two hour switch off from 4.30pm-6.30pm.
