What is Worcestershire County Council doing?
Worcestershire County Council has a strong commitment to protect
and enhance its natural environmental resources and its built
environment, including homes and roads. The Council is committed to
promoting sustainability in our decision making and the way we
deliver our services, such as transport and waste, and to help
residents and businesses throughout the county to do the same.
How we will achieve this, within our organisation and as a
member of the Worcestershire Partnership, is outlined in the
following key policies and strategies:
The
Sustainable Community Strategy sets out the strategic
vision for the future of Worcestershire and to focus on activity
needed in the short term (2008 – 2013) to make it happen. The aim
is to improve the quality of life of people who visit, work or live
in the county.
Worcestershire Partnership Climate Change
Strategy outlines how Worcestershire organizations
will work in partnership to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to
climate change, working towards agreed National Indicator
targets.
National Indicator Delivery Plans:
.NI186
- Per capita CO2 emissions in the local authority
area.
.NI188
- Adapting to climate change.
Corporate Plan
2009-13 outlines Worcestershire County Council's
vision for "safe, cohesive, healthy and inclusive communities, a
strong and diverse economy and a valued and cherished
environment".
Worcestershire County Council's Sustainability
Policy was adopted by the council in 2006. The policy
commits the council to integrating the principles of sustainability
into all of our work, to improve quality of life for all of the
County's diverse communities. We are currently reviewing our Policy
and Strategic Plan and plan to report progress annually.
The
Learning for Sustainability Strategy sets out
how we will deliver and implement our vision that everyone involved
in education, formal and informal, at all levels will play a key
role in creating a more sustainable future.
