About the collection

Running to almost 1,500 boxes of documents and hundreds of
volumes, maps and plans, the Worcester City Archives is one of the
largest collections held by Worcestershire Record Office, and a
huge source of virtually untapped information.
The Corporation that ran Worcester was the forerunner to today’s
modern City Council.
There are two distinct types of records:

The project will run until May 2011 to catalogue and clean the
collection. Although it will be possible to view the documents
using the basic paper inventory in the County Hall branch
searchroom, some documents may be temporarily unavailable whilst we
work with them. We will respond to your queries as soon as
possible.

Most of the collection will be fully accessible once the project
is completed. A small number of records, however, will have access
restrictions either due to their fragile condition, or under the
Data Protection Act.
