About the Library
Droitwich Spa Library is housed in an attractive, spacious
building located in the town centre close to parking facilities and
other local amenities.
The building stands on the site of the original Salters Hall
opened in 1881 by John Corbett for the salt workers and townspeople
as a place for recreation. Holding up to 1,500 people it
became a popular venue for dances, lectures, concerts and
bazaars. The upper floor had a balcony with a library and
reading room. The Hall was demolished in 1933 and the Salters
Super Cinema with built in its place. The decline in
popularity of the cinema in the 1960s meant that the building
became neglected and again threatened with demolition.
However, in the 1980s a plan to convert it into a public
library was accepted by the Town Council. The gallery and
proscenium arch, remnants of the building's days as a cinema,
remain in the building to this day.
The library offers a wide range of services which customers can
