About the Library

Alvechurch Community Library is located adjacent to the Crown Meadow and Alvechurch Middle School.

Your library has many new facilities including self issue terminal, a meeting room, exhibition space, a photocopier, a public toilet and a tea and coffee machine.

The Adult Section of the library has a good selection of fiction, large print and non-fiction books as well as a small local history and reference section.

Books on Prescription is a new service in liaison with local doctors, who recommend self help books of which there are a good selection on loan.

Audio books are available for loan at a cost of £1.00 for 3 weeks.

DVDs for adults are available for one week's loan at a cost of £2.75.

We have free Internet access on 3 People's Network Terminals available for public use.  They offer a wide range of facilities, including word processing. There is a booking system in operation for the computers.

The attractive Junior Library is well stocked with board books for babies and picture books and story books for older children. Non-fiction books are available to help with school projects and homework. A computer terminal is available from 3.30-4.15 pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, for children to use for homework.

Children's DVDs can be loaned for a period of one week for a charge of £1.50 or £2.75 per week.


Events and Activities

Special children's activities are held in some of the school holidays.  During the summer holidays older children can take part in the National Summer Reading Challenge.  Follow this link for more information on children's activities.

Creative Writing Workshops - writerworkshops@alvechurchlibrary meet on the last Friday of the month in the library from 11.00 am - 12.30 pm. If you enjoy creative writing, come and join us, all welcome.

 

Readers Groups

Alvechurch Readers Group meets once a month on a Monday evening at 6.30-7.45 pm.  If you enjoy reading and would like the opportunity to talk about books with other interested people, please contact the library for further information and the date of the next meeting.  Programme for 2010

Adult Learning

Learn a new skill this Autumn:

Drawing and Painting - every Tuesday from 10.30 am -12.30 pm.  Course runs from  21 September to 10 November 2010.  Fee:  £70
