Worcestershire Teen Book Award

Winner of Worcestershire Teen Book Award
announced
The winner was announced at a presentation ceremony in
the Council Chamber on 29th April 2010 as
Charlie Higson's The
Enemy
Michelle Hubbard, performance poet, treated us all to a
celebration of words and students championed their favourite reads
by means of reviews, a debate and even acting skills

Benefits of participating in the award:
One school developed a reading culture that was not present
previously,
Another converted a group of girls to a traditional 'boys'
writer.
All schools have said that pupils (and some teachers and
librarians) have read books they otherwise would not have read.
The intention was to stretch our boundaries and the WTBA has
done just that.
Criteria:
We consider titles published from December one year through to
the following November aimed at readers aged 11 to 14 and cannot be
a sequel. A current list is kept on Edulink in the School Library
area under Teaching and Learning. Please feel free to contribute to
this. If you require help with access please contact the
Children's Services Systems Support Desk: Phone: 01905 766766
or
Email: chs.system.support@worcestershire.gov.uk
Pupils then vote in school to whittle down to a shortlist of
six.
Books are read over Spring term when voting can be done using
Edulink. Although we encourage pupils to read as many of the titles
as possible, we will accept votes if pupils have not read the lot,
but still get excited by what they have read.
