Community Learning
What do we do?
The Community Outreach team travel to venues all over the county
where people may not have easy access to adult learning through
established education centres, such as colleges.
We work in informal settings, using venues such as libraries,
church halls, community centres and school halls as bases for our
courses.
What can you learn?
Pretty much anything you want!
To get a class going, we need a group of at least 8 people who are
all interested in doing the same thing.
This could be a group which is already together – such as a
pensioners' club, a faith group or a carers' group – or we could
advertise in your area to bring people together.
Examples of our courses:
- ICT for Beginners – Learn how to turn that
'box' in the corner on and why you don't need to be scared of mice,
then start on your way to being computer-wise.
- ICT for Improvers – Once you've overcome your
initial worries and feel confident using a computer, continue
developing your skills using a range of software packages and more
advanced features.
- Digital Photography – Learn how to use your
camera more effectively and try out different ways of editing
pictures and adding effects, then find out how you can store your
photos to make finding them again later easier.
- Modern Languages – Planning a trip abroad and
want to pick up a few basic phrases to make things easier? We can
offer short courses in languages such as French, German, Spanish
and Italian to get you going.
- Craft and Creative courses – If you're looking
for something to help you unwind and de-stress, are interesting in
getting out and meeting new people or just want something to keep
your mind active, one of these courses might be perfect for you. No
need to feel that you will be left behind by all the budding
Picassos – we can accommodate a range of ability levels.
Will you get a qualification?
Because of the way we work, all our learners will get something
different from working with us. We tailor courses to the needs of
our learners and it is not essential that everyone in a class is
working towards the same outcomes. You can choose:
- Courses where you set your own targets, work towards developing
your confidence and delight purely in your own achievements
- Courses where you can do all of those things above
and build a portfolio of work to enter for a
nationally recognised accreditation (certificate)
How can you find out more?
Your local library should be a good place to find out what is
going on in your area. If they are unable to help, please feel free
