Are you fully aware of the wonders of Worcestershire’s
countryside?
We
live in one of the most diverse and picturesque counties with a
wealth of opportunities to get out and about and enjoy it.
To enable residents to make the most out of
it, Worcestershire County Council's Countryside Service Team with
Grow with Wyre, are running a series of free one day courses
highlighting the range of activities and opportunities out
there.
The first workshop, Introduction to the
Countryside – the Wyre Forest and Surrounding Area, will be held at
various locations across the Wyre Forest.
Friday 2 March at Kidderminster Town Hall,
Wednesday 7 March at Bewdley, Baptist Church
and
Friday 23 March at Stourport on Severn, Areley
Kings Village Hall.
This workshop offers attendees training in
discovering local green spaces, understanding maps and trails,
learning what goes on in the countryside and who manages it, and
knowing the rights and responsibilities of the Countryside
Code.
The course is suitable for adults, and starts
at 9.15 (with refreshments) and runs through until 4.30pm, with
lunch and light refreshments provided.
A further course entitled 'Training to Lead in
the Countryside' will be held at the Wyre Community Discovery
Centre, Callow Hill on Friday 9 March or Saturday 24 March from
9.15am.
This course introduces the opportunity to lead
walks and events in the countryside. Attendees will learn how to
prepare and what equipment is needed to lead a walk, and health and
safety instructions. It also offers practical advice and
guidance for running events and even offers some ideas. The
afternoon session will take attendees on a walk around the way
marked trail within the forest.
Wade Muggleton, Senior Community
Greenspace Officer said: "We live in such a beautiful area
and many would like to explore it further. These courses will
enable people to know their rights and responsibilities when
exploring the countryside. I am really excited to be able to offer
such courses for people who can share their enthusiasm".
The project is run by the Grow with Wyre
Project, which working with partners, is driving to ensure the
long-term social, environmental and economic sustainability of the
Wyre landscape.
Courses are free to attend, however places are
limited and booking is essential.
