Take a 'Peyps' into the past
During this February half-term, the historic
Commandery museum has organised a one-week only event offering
visitors the rare opportunity to 'meet' legendary diarist Samuel
Pepys.
The Worcestershire Council- run museum will be
putting on activities for all the family every weekday during the
holidays from 11am-4pm.
Young people and adults alike will be given
the chance to have a go at calligraphy, illuminating and printing,
as well as having the unique opportunity on Monday, February 13 and
Friday, February, 17, to make their own journal similar to the one
Pepys kept over 350 years ago for £2.50. There will also be the
chance to participate in quill writing with goose-feather quills
similar to those used by Pepys, who was famed for his warts-and-all
writing style, himself.
On Tuesday, February 14, Worcester
calligraphers 'Black Letter' will be adding to the excitement as
they demonstrate the fine art of pigment painting onto manuscript
paper, egg tempera painting and working with gold leaf, giving
plenty of chances for people to have a go themselves.
Commandery Manager Sue Pope,
said: "We are delighted to be able to offer such a
wonderful week of activities. There is plenty to keep families
entertained for the entire day and we are looking forward to a good
response. "
Entry fee to the museum is £5.20 for adults
and £2.60 for children aged 5-16. Any children under 5 years old
can enter for free and family tickets are available at £12.50 which
is valid for groups of 2 adults and 3 children.
Worcester City residents get in free on
production of council tax bill/exemption certificate.
The museum is situated in Sidbury on the A44
between Worcester and the M5 Junction 7.
