Community Transport provides link to the
shops
A flexible transport scheme for residents
living in the south of the Malvern Hills district who are unable to
access mainstream public transport has been launched with support
from Worcestershire County Council.
Community Action Malvern and District will
help residents who live in very rural communities to access Great
Malvern and Malvern Retail Park using a 'ring and book' service for
one of their minibuses.
The pilot service will run every Tuesday
offering a door to door service with volunteers driving the
minibus. Passengers would need to book in advance.
Councillor John Smith, Cabinet Member
with Responsibility for Highways and Transport said: “The
scheme will provide significant assistance to people who have
difficulty in accessing mainstream services or mobility
problems.
“Transport is one of the critical components
of our ability to maintain people in their homes for as long as
possible, maximise their independence and allow them to play an
active part in their community.”
Jacci Phillips, Chief Officer at
Community Action Malvern and District said; "This scheme
aims to be as flexible as possible, picking up from any agreed
point. To make this pilot scheme become permanent, we need to urge
people to use the service. Community Action relies on volunteer
drivers for all of our services so if you have a few hours to
spare, then please give me a ring.”
