Calling all budding explorers!
Time is running out for budding explorers to
sign up to Worcestershire County Council's Outdoor Education
Service's winter mountain skills course taking place in the
Scottish Western Highlands during February half-term.
Enrolment for the course, led by a team of
outdoor education professionals, is closing on 3rd
February. The 4 day/5 night course will be tailored to suit the
experience levels of the participants (and the weather!), but could
include hill walking, mountaineering and easier grade winter
climbing.
Previous courses have proved highly popular,
as Head of Llanrug Outdoor Education Centre, Jon
Elliot, explains, "Our Scottish winter course is an ideal
opportunity for people who want to learn the skills necessary to
safely enjoy general mountaineering in the snow covered British
hills. Our aim is to build upon people's previous knowledge and
experience so that they can gain in confidence and have their own
adventures in the future. It's ideal for the summer walker or
scrambler who wants to get out in the white stuff!"
Llanrug Outdoor Education Centre has been
running similar courses for a number of years now and they've
become a regular fixture in the calendars of some participants.
Previous attendee, David
Lockyer, says, “The friendly competent Llanrug team
encourage you to develop your skills and knowledge of general
mountaineering by providing a course programme that is informative,
practical and tailored to individual needs. The skills and
knowledge that I gained from attending the course have provided me
with the confidence and appetite to take up more challenging winter
mountaineering. I would recommend this course to anyone who is
interested in taking to the snow covered hills.”
The instructed activities course costs £390.00
per person including transport from Worcestershire, accommodation
and food* and is open to anyone over the age of 18 with a moderate
level of fitness.
Please call Llanrug directly on 01286 672136
or email lloecenquiries@worcestershire.gov.uk
for more details and booking information. Further details can also
be found by visiting www.worcestershire.gov.uk/outdoors
*High quality food will be provided, however
some of the evenings will include eating in local hostelries.
Course members will need to finance these additional meals
themselves and this is reflected in the course cost.
Worcestershire County Council's three outdoor
education centres: Upton Warren, Malvern Hills and Llanrug in North
Wales, offer a huge range of activities for school and youth
groups, individuals, families and organisations looking for
team-building opportunities.
