Free training sessions for parents and
carers
Parents and carers of children with
disabilities and complex health needs are being invited to attend
free confidence-boosting sessions being delivered by the
Worcestershire Parents in Partnership project.
Entitled Equal Partners in Planning Services,
the two sessions are set to be held by the Parents Participation
Development Team on Thursday (March 11).
The first session will take place from 9.30am
until 2pm at the Fownes Hotel, Worcester and the second, at
Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club from 6pm until 9pm.
The training is aimed at enabling parents and
carers to:
· Be seen as an
equal partner when planning support for their child
· Not be
steamrollered by professionals
· Learn how to
recognise the limits and barriers professionals have
· Learn how to
leave a meeting not wishing they had said more.
Deana Millward, Worcestershire County
Council's Carer Development Officer – Children with Disabilities,
said: "This is a great free opportunity for parents and
carers who have children with disabilities to come along and build
their confidence in discussing their family's needs with the range
of professionals they so often come into contact
with."
Places are limited and need to be booked in
advance. To find out more call Deana Millward on 01905 765725 or
email dmillward@worcestershire.gov.uk
If the initiative proves to be successful and
these sessions are oversubscribed, we will be repeating them later
in the year.
