Worcestershire School Food Awards

The Worcestershire County Council, Healthy Schools Team held their School Food Awards last month (June) to promote and celebrate local seasonal food and healthy eating.

The awards were held at the Three Counties Showground.   The award categories were:

School Cook of the year

Young Cook of the year

Dining Room Experience Award

Healthy lunchbox competition

Go for Gold!

Amongst the winners was Laura O'Brien, from Catshill Middle School for the Design a Healthy Lunch Box, who won a family pass and goody bag from West Midlands Safari Park plus a lunch box, drinks flask and £25.00 voucher from Waitrose, Malvern.  

Matthew Nicholls from Hagley Catholic High School, was awarded Young Cook of the Year and won a herb garden for himself and vegetable garden for his school plus a day cooking with Dave Mabey, Chef and owner of Cebu oriental Restaurant, Ledbury plus match day ticket and goody bag from Worcester Warriors Rugby Club and knife set donated by Abraxas Catering Equipment.

Julia Marshall, Worcestershire County Council's Catering Office said:“The Awards were held to promote an understanding of healthy eating and highlight the benefits of using local and seasonal food whilst celebrating the skills and good practice already evident in the county's school kitchens and the value of the school meals service.”
