County Council Chairman plans social care
visits
Worcestershire County Council's Chairman will
be pursuing her life-long interest in social care when she embarks
on a programme of visits around the county next month.
Cllr Mary Drinkwater has been passionate about
social care ever since she first became a councillor over 30 years
ago, serving as Lead Member for Derbyshire Social Services.
Over the next few weeks she plans to visit 13 of the social care
establishments that are run by Worcestershire County Council for
older people, people with physical disabilities, people with
learning disabilities and those with mental health
problems.
Accompanying the Chairman on the visits will
be the County Council's Cabinet Member for Adult and Community
Services, Cllr Philip Gretton.
Cllr Mary Drinkwater said: "I
have always been interested in the care of the more disadvantaged
in our communities. One of my ambitions as Chairman is to
visit as many of our social care facilities as possible and to meet
the service-users themselves.
"I have been lucky to have visited two of our
Day Centres already and have been overwhelmed by the gentleness and
kindness of staff and the warmth and pride of the service-users in
their own achievements."
Cllr Philip Gretton added: "I
look forward to showing the Chairman many of the wonderful schemes
and facilities we have to ensure our service-users are given
opportunities that really enhance their lives.
"The dedication of staff is marvellous and I
am sure she will be very impressed."
The Chairman will visit more of the
Council's social care establishments in the autumn.
