New cycling routes in Malvern
Cycling routes across Malvern will be extended
following improvements being carried out by Worcestershire County
Council.
New routes are planned between the existing
cycle path on North End Lane and the Science Park off Geraldine
Road. Working in partnership with Malvern Hills District Council, a
walking and cycling route to Great Malvern Station is also in the
offing.
The routes are based on quiet roads where
possible, together with off-road sections which are being upgraded
for shared-use with pedestrians. One of those off-road sections is
at Edith Berry Court and work on this stretch was completed in
December.
Work on these new routes is ongoing and will
be completed by the end of March. Cllr Derek Prodger MBE,
Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member for Transport and
Safe Environment, said the new improvements was further
demonstration of the authority's commitment to providing
alternative means of transport
He said: "We are delighted to
announce that this work is going ahead, which will help local
people access businesses, schools and shops on short journeys
without their cars".
"Our programme of work upgrading walking and
cycling infrastructure will ensure that sustainable travel options
are always available for the public and These plans will
significantly increase the cycle network in Malvern."
