Winter weather volunteers to be praised at special
event
Volunteers who helped local communities during
the recent snow and ice will be honoured at a special
ceremony next week (Tuesday, February 9).
Many volunteers sprung into action during the
severe weather to help support critical services, such as county
council social care and homecare, as well as hospital and district
nursing.

Worcestershire County Council, NHS
Worcestershire, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust and
Worcestershire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust will present
members of the County Volunteers Emergency Committee (CVEC) with
certificates of commendation to acknowledge their efforts.
The ceremony will be hosted by the British Red
Cross in Worcester, which is the elected chair of CVEC. The British
Red Cross will receive a certificate, alongside Age Concern, St
John Ambulance, Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response
and the Land Rover Experience Centre at Eastnor.
The County Council's social care staff fought
through the conditions to make more than 30,000 home visits during
the freezing weather, supported by the voluntary agencies.
County Council Chairman, John Cairns, will
express the council's gratitude at the event and thank the
volunteers for their dedication and commitment. Top level
representatives of Worcestershire's health services will also be
present to thank the volunteers.
Councillor John Cairns, Chairman of
Worcestershire County Council, said: "Worcestershire's
volunteers deserve our thanks, our praise and our respect. They
made a huge contribution to our work throughout the worst of the
weather and their efforts helped some of the most vulnerable people
in our community.
"Volunteering to help your fellow citizens is
an admirable thing to do and I encourage anyone who can to do so.
The exceptional efforts of our staff were reflected in the
dedication and commitment of the volunteers and every one of them
deserves our county's thanks."
