County Council encourages people to eat up and save
energy
Food lovers can treat themselves to a
candlelit meal with a clear conscience as part of Worcestershire
County Council's 'Dine By Candlelight' promotion.
Seven restaurants are taking part in the
scheme that will see venues turning off the lights and saving
energy during the second week of November. Diners will be able to
enjoy the romantic glow of candlelight if they book a table at one
of the participating venues on the special promotional
evenings.
The council's online Green Directory lists the
restaurants taking part and which days will include 'Dine By
Candlelight' evenings. To find a venue near you, just visit

The council has organised the initiative to
tie in with Switch It Off Week, which urges us all to be more
energy-efficient by switching off our appliances between Monday,
November 9, and Friday, November 13.
Restaurants are being encouraged to use
environmentally-friendly beeswax candles and Hereford &
Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has provided top tips for fire
safety when using them.
Councillor Anthony Blagg,
Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member for Waste and
Sustainability, said: "Saving energy is something we all
need to work towards. The Dine By Candlelight scheme is a great way
to make a difference to climate change while enjoying ourselves at
the same time. I'd like to thank all of the venues that are taking
part and I hope they'll receive lots of bookings from
energy-conscious food lovers."
Participating venues
include:
- Pepper and Oz Limited, Malvern
- Cotswold Conference Centre,
Broadway
- Fusion Brasserie, Stoulton (near
Worcester)
- The Quay Restaurant, Worcester
