Intergenerational projects in given County Council grant boost

Worcestershire County Council has helped important community organisations secure valuable funding through one of its Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) grant schemes.

In total nine organisations from around Worcestershire were successful in what was the mini round of grant giving for the fund. Overall awards totalling £22,000 were allocated.

Simon Geraghty, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member for Planning, Economy and Performance, said: "It is great news that these organisations will benefit from the Generations Together Holiday Fund which will play an important role in bridging the generational gap in their communities.

"It is vital that old and young come together in communities throughout Worcestershire in order to build a better understanding of each other and to breakthrough any fears or misconceptions which may exist, and I believe this fund is a great way of making inroads into conquering those issues."

The Generations Together Holiday Fund is for intergenerational projects during the Christmas/February half term holiday periods. Organisations from the voluntary and community sector could apply for grants up to a maximum of £3,500 per project.

Grants will be used to increase wider participation in intergenerational activity and develop innovative ways for younger and older people to interact and come to better understand each other.

For more information on the fund call Suzy James, the County Council's VCS Unit Co-ordinator, on 01905 728650.
