Bus crash in France
West Mercia Police and Worcestershire County
Council can confirm they are working in partnership to support the
Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in response to the bus
crash that occurred in France on Sunday 19 February.
A coach returning home with a party from
Alvechurch CE Middle School, Worcestershire, crashed near Reims,
France, early on Sunday morning. Foreign and Commonwealth
Office Consular officers have been dispatched to the scene to
provide assistance to those affected.
Meanwhile, West Mercia Police is working
locally with Worcestershire County Council and the school’s
management team to support the families affected by the
collision.
People concerned about the incident should call the FCO helpline
on 0207 008 1500. Further information can be found on the
FCO website along with Interski and the
BBC's
websites.
Speaking on Sunday, County Councillor Liz Eyre, Lead
Member for Children’s Services said: "We are shocked and
saddened about the accident early this morning. Our thoughts
are with those involved and their families. The County Council's
Crisis Support team are working closely with the school to provide
support and advice to the parents, carers and of course the
passengers returning back from the school trip."
The school is open today (Monday 20th), where
teachers and specially trained staff continue to provide support to
those affected.
Please be aware that Alvechurch Library will be closed to the
public on Monday 20 February and Tuesday 21 February as the library
will be an additional area used by the school to support
