Making the decision to foster a child is one of the biggest, but one of the most rewarding decisions anyone can make. We know that caring for children is a tremendously important task and we aim to guide you through the journey you will take if you decide you want to foster a child.

The best part about fostering is knowing that you are making a positive difference to a child or young person’s life. You will be helping them to build a better future, by providing care and support at a time when they need it most. Being a foster carer is no easy task; children can be distressed, demanding and despondent. They are likely to have complex histories and to have come from troubled backgrounds.

Foster Care Fortnight - 14 to 27 May 2012

Foster Care Fortnight is an annual campaign, co-ordinated by the Fostering Network, which helps raise awareness of fostering, and in particular encourages people to consider becoming foster carers. During the two week campaign, fostering services around the UK hold events and promote their need for more foster carers in their communities and through their local media.

Worcestershire County Council's Fostering Service is once again getting behind this important campaign by organising a series of drop-ins across the county. Currently, there is a shortage of over 10,000 foster carers in the UK and in particular there is a need to recruit carers who can foster teenagers.  Worcestershire County Council is hoping to recruit at least twenty more households from all areas of the County by the end of 2012, with the priority being on households able to take in older children/young people
