Tabatha – 18-months-old

(quote by adopted child aged 11 years)
Tabatha is a delightful, sociable and engaging little girl, who
is learning to explore her environment, enjoys sharing books and
has a particular love of toys with faces. Tabatha is also a busy
and social child who likes to share her play activities and really
enjoys going out and about with her foster family. With a little
reassurance from her foster carers, she is confident and adaptable
to different social situations and ‘charms’ and engages with the
people that she meets.
Tabatha has been cared for by her foster family since her birth
and became Looked After because of the learning needs of her birth
parents. She has formed stable and secure attachments with her
foster parents and their two sons aged 9 and 12 years and she is
meeting all of her developmental milestones.
Tabatha is very mobile, she is now walking around the furniture
and standing alone but not yet walking. She also actively watches
and copies the sounds and actions of the people around her and is
forming sounds and words.
Tabatha is described by her foster carers as an ‘easy going’ and
adaptable baby who is open to new experiences as long as she can
check out with her foster carers that these are safe. She is also
able to cope with some flexibility in her nap routines during the
day
Ethnicity:
Mixed heritage — White British/Indian (grandparent)
Faith/Religion:
None specified. Tabatha has been cared for within a foster
family who celebrate Christian festivals and birth parents prefer
her to practice a Christian religion
Family Needed:
Tabatha would need to have a loving and stable adoptive family,
ideally with 2 parents, though single adoptive parents would be
considered. Tabatha’s parents would like her to have 1 or 2 older
siblings and also for her to be part of a wider family network.
Tabatha is mixed heritage White British/Indian, but she has not
been raised within an Indian culture, and this is also reflected
within her birth family. Her physical appearance does in part
reflect her Indian ethnicity in that she is olive skinned, with
dark brown hair and eyes and she would need to have adoptive
parents who provide a match in respect of her appearance, but
families with other mixed heritage/European backgrounds who could
also embrace and support Tabatha’s identity needs would be
considered.
Tabatha could not be placed with adoptive families living in the
areas of Bromsgrove/Redditch in the West Midlands, or Long Eaton in
Nottinghamshire
Education
Tabatha is attending a Parent & Toddler group one day a week
for 2 hours and is really enjoying the interaction and
socialisation with other children. There are no educational needs
identified for Tabatha and she is currently meeting all of her
expected developmental milestones.
Health
Tabatha is a very healthy child. She has had regular and up to
date health and developmental assessments and is achieving all of
her expected milestones and surpassing some of these. She does have
some hyper-mobility in her ankles (floppy ankles). This is a
relatively common condition which is managed by wearing supportive
boots and it is thought she will grow out of this.
Tabatha’s parents both have a learning disability and some
questions regarding mental health for her father, there is also a
possibility that her mother has mild tourettes syndrome, which may
present a developmental uncertainty for Tabatha in the future. Both
parents have epilepsy and Tabatha may have had exposure to use of
alcohol and anti-epilepsy medication during pregnancy. However, she
has presented no observable signs of impact from this.
