The 'Green Fingers' Project
Worcestershire County Council have been awarded £237,137 from
the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Programme to deliver a 5 year
'Green Fingers' Healthy Care in Action Project.
The focus of the project will be to improve the emotional and
physical wellbeing of Looked After Children (LAC) and carers
through green activities along with healthy living information,
activities and training to give LAC and carers a better
understanding of health and healthy lifestyles.
The project will be delivered by Worcestershire County Council's
Integrated Service for Looked After Children (ISL) at various
venues across the whole of Worcestershire.
Amongst the provision will be:
- Two part-time Community and Leisure Mentors to support the
project and offer a mentoring service to support LAC into positive
activities
- An ongoing therapeutic arts and gardening club
- Educational support involving access to therapeutic
horticulture and green activities such as arts and crafts,
environmental activities and forest schools
- Training will be offered to foster carers and Children's Homes
to help them adopt healthier lifestyles including activities such
as healthy cooking and outdoor education
- Raising awareness of healthy lifestyles for both young people
and their carers
- Co-ordinated targeted intervention and diversionary
activities
- Links with other organisations within the community, allowing
volunteering opportunities for LAC and Aftercare young people
