Opening times
The Historic Environment Record (HER),
including the Archaeology Library, has moved to The Hive and is
currently closed to visitors but is still contactable by phone and
email. The HER will reopen when The Hive officially opens to the
public in summer 2012 when opening times will be:
Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm excluding Bank Holidays.

Please note that dealing with public search enquiries is just
one part of the duties of the HER staff. It is for this reason that
we ask people to make an appointment to ensure that we have
appropriate staff on hand who are able to deal with your
enquiry.

Charges
Certain services provided by the Historic Environment and
Archaeology Service will incur a charge. Please see the
documents below for full details.
HER Searches - A charge is made for commercial HER enquiries or
where the search might be expected to be a claim on grant aid. This
includes search enquiries made in advance of planning
applications, those made by public utilities and other private
companies and those that are part of projects funded by
institutions such as English Heritage. Charges also
apply for some elements of historic environment planning advice and
monitoring. The fee is waived for HER searches of the Historic
Environment Record undertaken by individuals for personal research
or educational purposes. Please see the PDF below for more

Planning Advice - From 01/01/2011 the Planning Advisory Section
also charges for certain services. Please see the PDF
below.
The Field Section - is a commercial field unit, please contact
the Principal Field Archaeologist for quotes and
availability.
