Skills for Life

Adult Learning

The Skills for Life programme provides free adult learning opportunities for people wanting to develop their Literacy, Language ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Numeracy skills.

Our small and welcoming classes offer adults a chance to develop their skills in familiar surroundings, build confidence, get a qualification and move on.

Courses

Courses are organised in partnership with schools, children's centres, libraries, employers and community groups to ensure that classes meet the needs of both the learners and the community.

Classes are funded by the Learning and Skills Council. Courses are free to adults who:

  • Are below Level 2, which is the equivalent of 5 Grade A* - C GCSEs

There is a range of both accredited and non-accredited programmes on offer from Entry 1 to Level 2. Learners can choose to develop their English and maths skills in a wide range of subjects.

Open the PDF files in the right-hand column to read more about each course.

Venuescourse

Courses run in a range of venues, including schools and children's centres, across the county:

  • Redditch
  • Droitwich
  • Worcester
  • Kidderminster
  • Stourport

Classes

There are generally 6-8 learners in a group, led by qualified and enthusiastic tutors.

LaptopCourses last between 10-30 weeks, depending on learner need and the course objectives.

Where possible, learners will also have the opportunity to develop their computer skills on the course using PCs or laptops.

Adults join our classes for a wide range of reasons; some learners want to work on their spelling so that they can support their children, whilst others feel that their maths skills are letting them down at work.

Life Skills courseWhatever the reasons for learning, all learners have their skills assessed and are supported to achieve their goals through individual learning plans.

If you would like to find out more about where these courses are taking place, then contact Skills for Life Programme Manager on 01905 728887.

If you would like to host a course for a group of Skills for Life learners at your centre, then contact us for an initial discussion about your learners' and centre requirement.
