Adult Learning

What do we do?

The Community Learning team travel to venues all over the county where people may not have easy access to adult learning through established education centres, such as colleges.
We work in informal settings, using venues such as libraries, church halls, community centres and school halls as bases for our courses.

What can you learn?

Pretty much anything you want!  To get a class going, we need a group of at least 9 people who are all interested in doing the same thing so we usually advertise in your area to bring people together.  We find that word of mouth is one of the best ways of advertising, though, so enthusiastic promoters from your community will always help to get courses started.

Courses available

We have a range of courses available, details for each course can be found in the PDF files on the right of this page.

You can register your interest in attending any course using our online form.

Will you get a qualification?

Our aim is to help you get what you want from your course.  For some subjects (eg. job seeking and confidence building) accreditation is automatically included as part of the course.  As well as setting your own targets, you will be supported to build a portfolio for assessment which will help you gain formal recognition of your skills.  For other courses, accreditation may be offered as an optional element.  You will be able to discuss this with your tutor to decide what will be right for you.

How can you find out more?

Your local library is a good place to find out what is going on in your area.  They will be able to tell you not only what they are able to offer themselves, but also what else is available in your local area.  Each library can also access details of courses at other libraries in the county, so will be able to refer you to a course elsewhere if you are happy to travel a bit further afield.
