Life Beyond School Events In Worcestershire
Article created on 18th February 2013
Worcestershire County Council are running an annual event for young people with learning difficulties, learning disabilities and additional needs to help to plan the transition in their lives from school to young adult lives.
The Life Beyond School event will give young people the opportunity to find out about education, leisure, daytime activities, housing, benefits and more alongside a marketplace of services. It is also a chance for parents and carers to meet providers and to share experiences with those who may have been through the process already. There will be a variety of representatives from many organisations, both local and beyond, that cover all aspects of life for young people who are in, or coming up to this important transition in their life.
The event will run across Worcestershire at the following locations:
- Regency High School and Specialist Sports College in Worcester on 7th March (2pm until 6pm),
- Kidderminster Youth House in Wyre Forest on 14th March (5pm until 7pm)
- Pitcheroak School in Redditch on 21st March (3pm until 6pm).
Jayne Hipkiss, Early Intervention Family Support Worker said: "It is important for young people with additional needs to be able to find out what they can access and be involved in making decisions about what they want to do. The event will give them the opportunity to explore this in a safe environment with the support of people they can trust".
The Life Beyond School event has been running for the past five years by the Support, Guidance and Skills Service in the Wyre Forest area. This year they have joined up with the Early Intervention Family Support and Adult Social Care Young Adults Team, which is also a county council service, to run this event for young people across Worcestershire.
